Caucus Chairman Mike Turner was pretty blunt in his assessment of claims by the Republicans that their new map were fair, saying "Bullshit! They’re trying to go to a one-party state. That’s what they’re trying to do.”
Now, to be fair, I kind of doubt there was ever a time that Democrats stood around saying, "you know, I think we could really use some more Republicans up in here," but nevertheless, the question is not whether this is a partisan map, but whether its a legal map. It will be interesting to see, if Democrats do take it to the courts, what their arguments will be. It would appear that their efforts to cull the number of black representatives in the House will be the foundational basis of the argument, but whether or not that can translate legally is a question some good lawyers will have to answer.
