The Politics of EFCA
Yesterday I had reported that Sen. Roy Herron, Democratic Caucus leader and Gubernatorial candidate, had voted in favor of a Republican sponsored resolution urging the Congress and President to oppose the Employee Free Choice Act which would allow for pledge cards to be signed in the unionization process.
Sen. Herron spoke with me this morning to clarify the record on where he stands. According to the Senator, he has been focused on issues such as unemployment insurance and job creation, and did not fully investigate the matter of EFCA. On June 2nd, he voted in committee to approve the non-binding resolution, after which he spoke with friends from labor and his caucus who convinced him that he should probably oppose the measure in the full Senate. Apparently, when the vote came up, he was distracted with another conversation, and voted the wrong way...once the official recorded vote comes out it should reflect his new found opposition to the resolution.
Sen. Herron freely admitted that he still is not fully informed on the issue of the Employee Free Choice Act, and hopes to investigate the matter in the future to have a better understanding of it.
Update:
Point of clarification, I was a bit groggy this morning and misinterpreted what Sen. Herron said...if you are wondering why the Senate record does not list Sen. Herron's "Nay" vote, it is because he had the Clerk adjust his record to not having voted (apparently along with a few other Senators), rather than an Aye, Nay, or PNV.

Jeeebus. He didn't know what it was about and was distracted when the vote came up and voted FOR it by MISTAKE? Umm ... let me be the first to call bullshit on that one.
SEN. HERRON FAIL
What an idiot. Do not want for Governor.
I agree with Southern Beale. Do we really want THIS kind of governor? I still have not gotten anything that shows me what he's actually done in his time representing Perry County to address unemployment and job opportunities, and I won't stop asking until I get a straight answer. The hindsight talk from this guy has been nothing but fluffy fluffy, and his recent "focus" is almost translucent. It's time our state's party promote power instead of failed nepotism.
In another demonstration of how important Sean's blog is, his reporting and the handling of this situation by Senator Herron has unofficially ended his gubernatorial bid.
Well, did he vote or didn't he? I'd prefer our legislators not vote on crap they don't understand.
Still calling BS. Perry Co. has state's highest unemployment. He voted against a union bill because he was afraid he'd get into a "unions hurt jobs" conversation.
Bah.
Here is the rundown as best I can tell.
He voted Aye in committee on 6/2.
Yesterday, he voted "aye" on the floor by accident, and later had the Clerk change his status to not having voted at all.
Herron lost my vote by supporting guns in bars, but this is ridiculous. He is either a liar or incompetnet. Either way, he is no candidate for governor.
This campaign has collapsed. It is kaput, finished.
I can understand that people make mistakes, but I also call BS on this one.

Thanks for keeping up on this Sean. He knew what he was voting on - him saying anything else is a lie.
There is no way Herron cast a vote out of ignorance. He is peddling some falsehood. Good reporting, Sean.
If Roy Herron will lie about this, what else is he lying about?
