Lost in the Shuffle

Roger Abramson reared his head like Putin over Alaska this past Friday and relegated Sarah Palin to a Cabinet position:

Look, I like Sarah Palin. I'm not among those who say that she's not ready for the national stage, etc. I think she's more than ready for the national stage, but perhaps not as a vice-presidential candidate. She'd be a great Secretary of the Interior, say, or a Secretary of Energy or some such.

However, he also made an interesting note and comparison:

For you folks on the left who enjoy ripping on Sarah Palin: seriously, there is very little difference between her and John Edwards other than their politics. He was all about style over substance; so is she. And his foreign policy experience? None, just like her.

While I've never had any great love for JRE; I would say that simply by virtue of being in the US Senate for a number (small as it was) of years, and having to deal with National issues, John Edwards was much more well versed in foreign affairs than Gov. Mooseport.

The problem with Palin to date is that there is no evidence she ever took any real interest in National Affairs prior to being picked as McCain's VP nominee. One can be outside of Washington and still be well versed in public policy, but it takes intellectual curiosity, something she hasn't quite shown to date.

Either way, as Roger says, Sarah America is more or less irrelevant at this point.
