Iraqis are Surrender Monkeys

Barack Obama, in an op-ed in the NY Times, continues to promote his plan (much to the consternation of a mainstream media desirous to promote the erroneous flip-flop narrative) to begin a phased withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq, which should culminate in a complete withdrawal within 16 months after taking office.

Only by redeploying our troops can we press the Iraqis to reach comprehensive political accommodation and achieve a successful transition to Iraqis’ taking responsibility for the security and stability of their country. Instead of seizing the moment and encouraging Iraqis to step up, the Bush administration and Senator McCain are refusing to embrace this transition — despite their previous commitments to respect the will of Iraq’s sovereign government. They call any timetable for the removal of American troops “surrender,” even though we would be turning Iraq over to a sovereign Iraqi government.

McBush continues to ignore both the American and Iraqi people in favor of a few academic neo-cons who have a messianic belief in the need to occupy Iraq. Only by removing the stain of the Republican party from the White House can we begin to restore reason to our foreign policy.
