Does He Floss Regularly?

The AFL-CIO, the foot soldiers of the Democratic party, are pushing a new website and mailer which attempts to correct some of the misnomers about Obama and his candidacy; the important stuff like:

Does he wear a flag pin on his lapel? (Yes, too much in fact)

Is he a Christian? (Not any kind James Dobson, et al, would support)

Was he sworn in on the Bible? (The real answer is no, nobody is sworn in on the Bible in congress, but for the purposes of the mailer...yes)

Was he born in America? (Yes, if you consider Hawaii part of America)

Does he place his hand over his hear when he says the pledge? (Not really, more his left lung, but sure, why not?)

Frankly, I'm not sure its worth the effort to try to dispel these "rumors". I think most people, if you ask them, know that Barack Obama says he is a Christian, but they are xenophobic, slightly racist, morons who want to believe Barack Obama is a secret Muslim (and most don't really know what that even means)...and the erroneous belief that the media is somehow "in the tank" for Obama allows them to believe in some massive cover up.

Just look at NoQuarterUSA...while back in the 70s these crazies would've been put in an mental institution for their own protection, they are allowed to roam free, and even start their own delusional website. Take for instance this Insanocrat who is obsessed with the idea that Barack Obama is not eligible for the White House because of citizenship requirements:

Seriously...this nutter thinks that Barack Obama's campaign released a birth certificate (which nobody can prove is a forgery) in order to make them waste hundreds of hours trying to debunk it. This is serious mental institution stuff here, and yet, because no violence has yet been threatened, "Texas Darlin" is allowed to roam free, along with the 9/11 truthers and alien abduction believers.

People believe what they want. The ten percent who believe Obama is a Muslim, even when shown evidence that he is not, will either still believe it or just move on to some other irrational, baseless fear. I'd say it might be time to move on to people who have two brain cells to rub together, but are on the fence because they like both candidates.

In fact, while the media kvetches about why the race is "so close," the simple fact is we have two of the most favored candidates in decades. Both candidates have on average about a net +20% favorability rating...that is really high considering we are only 100 days until the election, and Barack Obama came out of a grueling 6 month long non-stop primary season.

The people up for grabs aren't going to be the ones who think Obama is a terrorist loving secret Muslim who trades gay sex for crack while thinking of ways to enslave the white race; the people in play are the relatively moderate Americans who might like what Obama has to say, but just aren't sure if he is ready to be President, in part because of 5 months of a certain someone questioning his ability to be President while talking up the Republican nominee.

I predict the polls will remain fairly consistent until the debates, at which point they'll break...I think in favor of Barack Obama, but they'll break one way or the other.
