American Pride

William H. Hobbs is at it again in his attempt to get himself some attention, this time by going after Michelle Obama and her poorly worded phrase about pride in America.

Barack Obama responds:

I'll be honest, I shy away from the phrase "I'm proud to be an American," because I didn't have a choice in the matter, and continuing to be an American is the path of least resistance. I'm glad I'm an American, and I respect what those have done before me, but I have trouble taking pride in that which I did not do.

Update: The Obama campaign gives the TNGOP the attention though so justly do not deserve:

“This is a shameful attempt to attack a woman who has repeatedly said she wouldn’t be here without the opportunities and blessings of this nation. The Republican Party’s pathetic attempts to use the same smear tactics to win elections have failed in Mississippi, failed in Louisiana, and will fail in November because the American people are looking for a positive vision of real change. And if the Tennessee Republican Party has a problem with Senator Obama, maybe next time they’ll have the courage to address him directly instead of attacking his family,” said Obama spokesman Hari Sevugan.

I am sure Billy won't mind any such attention directed at one multi-millionaire heiress with a penchant for stealing drugs and investing millions in firms that profit from such noble regimes as the one in Sudan.

What a brilliant answer. "The path of least resistence"?? That's a quote for a commander in chief. Good lord it's going to be a long four years. At least he doesn't have a problem refering to past words

TC,

Those are my words, not his.

I just realized that...so got me. Still brilliant.

Was it just me, or did Obama's camp just throw out the equivalent of, "If you have something to say, say it to my face."?

Bravo . . . tho I agree that they don't deserve the attention, that is usually the quickest way to shut up tough talking GOP chickenhawks who love talking "patriotism" til its their turn to serve.
