Arugula is a Four Letter Word?
The chain smoking Minority Leader of the House, John Boehner, offers a gastronomical critique of Sen. Barack Obama and the Democratic party, stating:
By November, it will be clear that Obama’s appeal is limited to arugula-eating college professors, hardcore liberal Democrats, and the residents of Nancy Pelosi’s Congressional District.

Explain to me, why is it OK for Republicans to attack the culture of Americans who prefer a $3.00 salad mix to a $2.00 salad mix? Why is it OK for the Republicans to disparage educators? Sen. Obama tries to make a statement, though clumsy as it was, defending and supporting rural Americans and gets attacked for it; while John Boehner gleefully trashes urbanites who may prefer arugula to iceburg, and not a fuckin' peep from the media?
I'm sick of this double standard where chain smoking inbred idiots like John Boehner get to trash those of us (not rich by any means) who live in urban areas and might prefer foods that weren't commonplace on dinner tables in the 1950s; and we just have to sit back and take it.
Lets see the media dissect John Boehner's comments. Lets see them go to colleges and Whole Foods stores and ask patrons what they think of these insensitive comments. I'm sick of the news media extolling the virtues of 'salt of the Earth' folk while allowing them to trash people who live in cities in New York or California. I'm not rich, I work for a living, I don't even have a college degree...but because I don't worship NASCAR, drink shit beer, or eat crappy food, somehow that makes me less American? Fuck off John Boehner and the rest of you elitist hicks (from my home state of Ohio, btw).

Same reason it's OK for you to backhandedly attack a guy for smoking?

That is actually his only admirable quality...I'm a Camel man myself.
Preach on....preach on...
You will make a wonderful Rebublican once you reach your 30's and acquire some wealth. These writings will a source of nostalgia and mirth.
Why, because I don't think there is anything wrong with liking good food, drinking wine, and living in an urban area?
If people want to live in a rural setting, that is their business, but they need not go around pretending they are better than everyone else because of it.
Funny post. Perhaps the Arugula eaters will get a break as soon as liberalas stop attacking rich, white guys who like to play golf and then sit around on the leather chairs and smoke cigars as they comtemplate how best to exploit poor people.
I might suffer from some identity crisis: I love fresh greens, including Belgiun Endive. Don't play golf and no interest in starting. I do like cigars and leather chairs. Think cigarettes are trashy but do dip, especially when I'm writing. Drive a Volvo. I like good beer, especially when someone else buys, but will drink nearly anything. Actually Rod Dreher did identify people like me five or so years ago... Granola (or Crunchy) Conservatives.

Throw in some bourbon and it sounds like a perfect Saturday.
What the fuck is arugula?
