More Outrageous Words from Wright

The LA Times points to some more dangerous and fiery rhetoric from Jeremiah Wright.

Declaring that blacks have forgotten God and fallen into promiscuity, he urged: "Don't give up on God! . . . Don't give up on the process of marriage!"

Oh, and this from a 2003 article:

"We live in a day in age where we have become accustomed to user-friendly commodities, including Christianity," Wright said. "We look for a stress-free religion, with twice the sin but half the guilt."

The Reverend said many people look for a religion that will meet their needs, make them happy, and possibly make them rich. He suggested that these people buy into the Burger King theology of a "have it your way" religion.

And this quote, which indicates that Wright felt his words were more important than God's:

"Some pastors think they are the shepherds," he said. "But God does that. God is the one in charge." He said the important thing is that people find a place where they can belong.

Then there is this quote from a white Disciples of Christ preacher, taken from a weaselly letter from the 80% white, Texas Christian University's divinity school, which deems it necessary to give this hate-filled preacher, who has never preached a day in his life without saying the words "kill whitey," an award for his "lifetime of service" to Christ:

"When I heard Jeremiah Wright at Ministers Week a few years back--before I had heard of Obama for President--I thought Wright one of the best preachers I'd heard and certainly not just among Black preachers. His content was orthodox Christianity with much scripture focus on justice, peace and compassion--a call to be like Jesus in concern for the poor, the downtrodden and despised among us. . ."

I don't believe that for one second. After all, I've seen tons (or 3-4 minutes worth) of footage which shows him angry and abrasive and hate-filled. Yeah, some might say that taking 3 minutes from a seven year period might not be an accurate measure of what he or his church was about, but we know differently. Context is for American-hating liberals...I want simplicity, and to think that Wright could be more complex than the youtube clips show, well, that is just downright un-American.

Oh, and now Obama is refusing to answer the tough questions like this one, "ABC: “Campaign has yet to answer repeated requests for dates on which the senator attended Rev. Wright’s sermons over the last 20 years.”

Because, as we know, every good Christian keeps a 20 year record of the services they attended and missed, so that someday if they run for President and their Pastor's 30 year career is condensed into 3 minutes on youtube, then they can prove which remarks they did and didn't hear. Why is Obama hiding this commonly held set of records?

"I have been in services when Dr. Wright has gotten to that fiery point," Judge said. She wasn't bothered because she heard his words in context and many times agreed. Sometimes, she didn't. But, Judge said, who agrees with everything someone else says?

"Jeremiah is my friend and my mentor and he's my daddy," said Mason, 56. "I was angry to see someone take snippets of a 2003 sermon and use it in 2008, and use it to discredit a man like Wright, a church like Trinity and a campaign like Obama's."

I don't know about you, but all I hear from this woman is "I hate white people".
