Eliot Spitzer Unzipped

I'm all for legalizing prostitution, as I think it would benefit the prostitutes, the neighborhoods, and the customers; but until that happens, perhaps those charged with enforcing the prostitution laws should avoid using the banned services....eh, Eliot?

This is just the latest in a long line of scandals that has taken a man who was elected by overwhelming margins, to popularity numbers rivaling El Jefe himself.

Update:

Spitzer just held a press conference in which he admitted to doing something that hurt his family, but wouldn't say whether or not he would resign. While I don't think he necessarily should resign, this significantly tarnishes his image as a reformer and a person who is above political corruption. And while he may say this is a personal matter, using a high-end prostitution ring, while your previous job was shutting down said rings, and your current job is to enforce laws against such rings, is an example of corruption.

Update II:

I sort of have to wonder how this will play out in the Presidential contest. After all, Spitzer was Hillary's main supporter in New York, her adopted state. I have a feeling she is going to put out a statement, or give one, which empathizes with Spitzer's wife, says she's been through this too...play up the whole solidarity angle and all that.

I feel really sad for Spitzer because I think he had an opportunity to make a big difference in state and maybe national politics.

I think he should resign, primarily because he has always said that he should do what is in the best interest of the state of New York.

It’s getting to the point where we can no longer trust any ethics reform proposals for our public servants which come from a member of a major political party.

Rob why do you feel sorry for him? I dont feel sorry for any of them. That goes for him and it goes for GOPers as well. You can bet the farm they wouldnt feel sorry for you or me if we ever got caught in a mess like that. When you take into account the enormous responsibility they have...they should be held to a mugh higher standard.

Maybe I am jaded but this type of behavior from politicians no longer shocks me. What I find inexplicable is the wife is always there by the disgraced politician's side. I would hold my own press conference announcing my intention to file for divorce.

I think his background as a prosecutor of such rings and his platform while running for NY governor call for his resignation. He made his bed and he should now figuratively lie in it after literally lying in it. I'll be surprised if he does so, though, unless the pressure to do so becomes too much for him to stay in office.

I'm a lib dem… I live in Manhattan, and I never liked spitzer. He was always cocky and arrogant…. attacking anyone in his path that didn’t see it the spitzer way. When he went after some big wall street firms (the ones he didn’t liked - he left others alone) and hung them over a barrel – the public cheered! spitzer’s our hero! what the public didn't notice… was how the stocks of these companies spitzer was trashing were dropping… big time - the public lost even more money because of spitzer! spitzer knew these big firms would never stand up to him because of the bad press they would receive. They were an easy target… there was no risk for him. I never understood why nobody caught on to this. To me Spitzer has always been a coward… an opportunist… a Bolshevik thru and thru - absolute power!
He just got caught doing what he does… making mandates and spouting moral standards for the people to follow… his little people. Looks like spitzer is one of us now… we should make an example out of this criminal.

I've always believed that powerful people have powerful flaws. Spitzer is no exception.

I could live with it, except that he prosecuted similar crimes.

I don't think he should leave office, but he's going to have to take a public beating for this and it might impact his future career.

And it should.

Eliot, I have detested what you stand for ever since you included me, a reputable small business owner, in your attack on the insurance industry. Hypocrite just doesn't do you justice. It makes sense that you would have to spend $5,000 to get anyone to get close to you. How's that for justice, Eliot!!!!

Gov. Spitzer resign and show some respect for the people of New York.

Hey Eliot. Come to BUBBA!!! I think he should be sent to the crowbar hotel where his room and board is payed for and he gets treated like the many he put there. He knew the law inside out. I wouldn't feel one bit sorry or the low life. The guy has (should be had) a beautiful wife and 3 lovely daughters and he is out making depostits in a walking junky with a high risk of bing a walking STD.
