Barack Obama is a drooling retard...why can't Hillary expose it??? Why is the media ignoring it??? Its so easy for me to see, why isn't anyone else seeing what I see???
Randy Neal over at Knox Views seems perplexed as to why Hillary couldn't "bring on the wonk to expose Obama's lack of depth on policy." This is a fascinating quote to me, because I think it sums up the arrogance of the Clinton camp really well. Basically, they have said his campaign is all about words, they have said he isn't ready, they have said he lacks substance; and suddenly, they are surprised when it doesn't turn out to be true.
Hillary couldn't expose Obama's "lack of depth" for the same reason Bush couldn't find any WMD in Iraq. It wasn't because he didn't look hard enough, it was because they weren't there.
And what I find most amazing, is the presumption by some in the blogosphere that Obama is simply drawing in a bunch if idealistic idiots who couldn't string a thought together, while Hillary has on board the people who care about policy. But here is the problem...Hillary is banking on the uneducated white vote to boost her campaign. She is banking on the least informed voters to put her over the edge in Ohio. Obama has won the college educated vote in most states. Do you mean to tell me that those who haven't gone to college (and I'll say, I don't have a college degree yet), are somehow better informed and more politically savvy than those who did (I'm not talking about anecdotally but statistically)?
Look, I know some extremely intelligent people backing both candidates, and I know some knuckle-dragging idiots supporting both candidates as well; but the arrogant assumption by Camp Clinton is essentially that her people back her because they know of her experience and solutions; while the Obama supporters have somehow been duped and they need to wake up to the reality that Hillary is just oh so darn smart. Bullshit. I see one of the more intelligent politicians in America when I see Barack Obama. Has he had as much experience with Federal Policy as Hillary? No, but if that were the criteria it would be Biden or Dodd in her place right now.
My suggestion to Hillary supporters...stop waiting for the "real Obama" to be exposed, and start looking at the candidates as presented.

I am for Hillary first but then for Obama if he is our candidate. That being said I noticed two things last night:
1. I think the look that accuses Obama of being arrogant when he holds his head cocked with his nose slightly tilted up is just the way he listens. He's probably done it since he was a kid in school. It looks one way but I believe it's just how he holds his head.
2. I also think that Hillary was looking to the future and not savaging Obama to give the other side talking points. She's too seasoned a politician and too strongly a Democrat to do that.
As you mentioned, there are very intelligent passionate people for both candidates. I do worry how the rock star atmosphere will play out in the fall. He's on too high a pedestle for any mortal. But we'll see because time marches on.
The reason that college educated and higher income folks tend to be more interested in the rhetoric and the idealism is basicly because they have time to think about idealism. Most of their basic needs are being met and they move on up the paragon. Us working class folks, unfortunately don't have that benefit. We've got to spend our time figuring out how to keep things paid. Plus we've been fed idealism and for lack of a better word "bull shit" our entire working lives. While we've heard many beautiful speeches, it still comes down to us going to work. That's why people with honest to god plans are more appealing. Speeches tend to make us suspious, because like I said, lord knows we've heard a lot of them.
That said, neither side has smarter or more appealing supporters then the other, its just different mind sets.
Us working class folks, unfortunately don't have that benefit.
Cry me a fuckin' river. I have to worry about paying my rent on time just like everyone else. I don't work in a cushy executive job, nor do I have any extra money lying around; I've got a lot of debt, and have to worry about how I'm going to pay my bills. In fact, except for my age, I'm in the group Hillary is trying to woo.
I can still walk and chew gum at the same time. I can still think about policy and have a tinge of idealism.
Hillary hasn't won voters with her policies, she's kept the voters she had already lined up when she announced for the Presidency. Obama has been able to win over people who didn't support her, and those who were going to support her but found something better.
The reason she can't win caucuses or win among educated voters is because when people actually actively participate in the process, and spend a lot of time focusing on the issues, they generally go towards Obama.
Sean, stop..take a deep breath, nobody said you were incapable of walking and chewing gum. Lets offer an example, how is Obama going to pay for his plans? Oh yea..taxing just the rich. Call me in ten years if that doesn't include across the board tax increases. As far as Caucuses go, find the time while you're trying to feed a family, get the kids to school, and still have time for your self. I'll be at the democratic convention this week end, and it is difficult to make the time. "Cry me a river" quotes are why the "educated" are often times ignored. There was also a time before you were born when such concerns were raised that they weren't met with scorn, but compassion by the Democratic party.
Its going to be met with scorn when you try and argue that all "working class" folks are one way. I would certainly fit into the "working class" genre, but I still find time to be politically engaged, and so do you apparently.
Please refer to the root of this discussion. It was in reference to what appeals to a certain demograph, nothing to do with levels of political engagement. Look at polls across the country, if you make over $55000 you tend to an Obama supporter, under, for Hillary. Has he been eating into that? Sure. But I was offering you a little observance based on a few more years at this game, perhaps in ten years we'll have a chance to revisit it. Perhaps at that time you'll have a better understanding of the difference between having to go to school and pay rent, and raising a family and meeting all those bills.
I dunno, my 47 year old father would probably say the same thing as I have...but we'll see.
