Barack The Vote

Hundreds of people showed up last night to Barack the Vote, sponsored by Nashville Loves Barack Obama. It was a great crowd, and most were equally enthusiastic about the music and the news out of Iowa and New Hampshire...spotted one guy wearing a Ron Paul t-shirt, but otherwise, the crowd at this free concert was pretty solidly behind Barack Obama for President.

This was the third such concert, the second one at Exit/In, and what is amazing is that this was pulled off entirely by grassroots volunteers, chief among them Megan Morton, who recently took over the reigns of the NLBO organization. It certainly bodes well to have grassroots organizations that complement an already impressive official campaign operation.

On a side note, all the bands were good last night, but I think the best was probably Biscuits and Gravy, an R&B/Hip-hop group which mixes in a lot of humor into their music.

Check out the coverage of the event over at News2.

Update: Oh, I forgot, in addition, over 60 voter registration forms were filled out by the end of the night. Helping ever so slightly to boost the amount of new voters who are becoming engaged in politics because of the candidacy of one man.

Registering is easy to do. It's the actual voting that might not be such an easy task for any candidate! Getting those young folks to the actual polls on election day will be the true test. I certainly don't expect primary voters to be of the younger variety.

They won't make up a majority of the votes, but they certainly can have an impact, as they did in Iowa. It depends on whether the race is still heated by Feb 5th or not...if so, I think you might be pleasantly (or unpleasantly, depending on your preferred candidate) surprised.
