Fundraising Figures
The fundraising figures for Nashville's Mayoral candidates are coming in, and while the winner is Clement again, in second place is Karl Dean [still waiting on Gentry's, so this could change] who brought in almost 200K in donations, but a nice lil' chunk of 325 Thousand dollars from his bank account. Bringing his 2nd quarter total to 525,000, actually surpassing Clement for money raised this quarter (see Kleinheider for more figures).
Dozier raised about a 116K and Briley raised about 108K. So even if you factored out Dean's show of love for himself, he still is in a strong second place in terms of donations, though Briley has more financial supporters with about 1800 donations all together.
One thing I did find amusing though, was the list of people on Briley's financial committee:
Members of Briley's finance committee include Jerry Martin, finance chair for U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper, Stephen Zralek, a partner at Bone McAllester Norton, Will Cheek II, former Chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party, Fred D. (Tony) Thompson Jr., attorney and Charles Robert Bone, Finance Chair for Harold Ford, Jr.'s U.S. Senate campaign.
All things considered, unless Briley does mortgage his house, its going to be awfully hard for him to compete with Dean and Clement. Unlike Dozier and Gentry, his poll numbers weren't at a place where lower fundraising figures wouldn't matter as much; so a big ol' shot of adrenaline (perhaps money would cut it) is going to be needed to push him into second place for the runoff. The question is, now that we are just a couple of days away from early voting, will any amount of money be enough to energize the public behind him? We've got an interesting few weeks ahead of us to see if the dynamics of this race change dramatically.
Update:
Apparently Briley has already kicked in some of his own money, to the tune of $100K.
Update II: From the Gentry camp...
The Howard Gentry For Mayor Campaign raised $122,225 during the April 1 -June 30, 2007 reporting period, according to the disclosure the campaign filed today with the Davidson County Election Commission.
That brings the total raised so far to $333,048. The campaign has $131,489 on-hand now. Gentry has made no loans or contributions to his campaign.

I hear David is selling his house and that Karl Dean has already toured the place with his real estate agent. He's looking for some non-liquid assets considering all his money will be gone if he continues spending on this lost cause.
I guess I don't see why that list is so funny....
Also...I can't believe you take so much stock in polls in a race that's virtually impossible to get a solid read on. Think about it: The expectation is somewhere between a 10% and 15% turnout -- in other words, low. It's extremely difficult to track such an election. Accordingly, I think this race is anyone's ball game. Although, I would certainly argue that Bob Clement is slightly leading the pack because folks in this city have been used to voting for the guy for so long.
Anon,
The fundraiser list is slightly humorous because Tony Thompson just made the news recently because of his lobbying work and ties to his father Fred.
