Media Frenzy
Worried that Rupert Murdoch is going to come into town, raping and pillaging the local media market? If so, this is the fun forum for you.
The FCC has announced that the second official public hearing on media ownership issues will be held in Nashville, Tenn.:
Date: Monday, Dec. 11, 2006
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Location: Belmont University
Massey Performing Arts Center
Massey Concert Hall
1900 Belmont Blvd
Nashville, Tenn.
Belmont Campus Map and Directions
Further details, including the full schedule and panelists, will be posted here as soon as they are available. The hearing will feature two panels with opportunities for public comment after each. The first panel will focus on issues related to the music recording community. The second panel will focus on local Nashville broadcasting and independent programming.
All five FCC Commissioners are expected to attend this event, one of the public's few chances to speak out against Big Media before FCC Chairman Kevin Martin moves to lift the last significant limits to runaway media consolidation.
I probably won't attend, as I don't really give a damn who owns the local media because I rarely ever watch the local news. But if you want to make sure the guy who points out crazy daily occurrences like long lines is actually based in Nashville, this is the forum for you.
