Racist?
Is the anti-Ford ad that the Corker campaign denounced as "tacky" actually a racist ad? That's the theory from Vanderbilt Professor John Geer tells the Times Free Press, "I've seen thousands of (political) ads, and I mean literally thousands of ads, and I've never seen such a racial appeal as this one...In some sense, it almost makes the Willie Horton ad look tame."
Really...racist? I see that it's tacky (though I got a chuckle from the guy who talks about Porn money) but just because there is a skanky white woman blowing a kiss to Harold, does that mean there are "racial overtones". I'm not a huge fan of all this talk of 'code words' and hidden subtext. It's not as if Harold Ford has kept secret the fact that on occasion he dates caucasians. So what if he does? The only people I can think of that might be turned off from this, are white folks who probably weren't going to vote for Ford in the first place...and perhaps some Black voters. I don't think this will have any large effect on Ford's Black vote, because they really don't have a viable alternative to turn to...considering Bob Corker is George Bush lite, and polls show Black voters aren't very fond of Bush or his policies.
If you want to see real racism, look no further than Jake Ford's supporters. Here and Here.

Are you kidding me? This is so obviously a play to the “Hide the women, the N****** are coming!” old Southern fears. It’s despicable in this day and time and no amount of rationalization can justify it. Haven’t we gotten beyond this yet?
Well, I have to say I rolled my eyes at Mr. Braisted agreeing it was only a little tacky. But he's got a point, at least on the surface of the ad.
I mean, at no point in the ad does someone in black-face pop out and say, "Hey! Where all duh white women at?!"
One thing I've notice that most people skip over is that while the 'gimmick' is people are stating opposite (and ludicris) positions of 'real' issues, what does the only black person in the ad state for her 'real' issue?
Hmm. Yeah, I'm sure all blacks vote based on appearaces only. Heck, it ain't like they're smart enough to figure out regressive social policies...
... right Mr, Corker?
In either case, bravo! What a classy man.
