Tennessee State Senate

I just got this email from the TN Senate Democratic Caucus looking for support for a few candidates.

Senate Democratic Caucus: www.tnsenatedems.com

Duran Williams (District 1): www.Duran4TN.com

Vince Springer (District 13): www.VinceSpringer.com
(no online function; please send contributions to P.O. Box 1939, Spring Hill, TN 37174-1939)

Bob Rochelle (District 17): www.RochelleForSenate.com

Sen. Douglas Henry (District 21): www.HenryForSenate.com

Mary Parker (District 23): www.ParkerForSenate.com

Lowe Finney (District 27): www.LoweFinney.com

The only candidate listed who is an incumbent is Douglas Henry. In fact, as far as I can tell he is the only incumbent Democrat running this year who is opposed. The next closest is Ophelia Ford (though technically not an incumbent, she did warm the seat for a little bit), who is left off the list even though she had an extremely narrow "victory" last time. Makes me kind of wonder if the party apparatus will do anything to help her this election cycle. If not, that would tell a lot about what people think of Ophelia, considering how important every seat will be this election cycle.

I've been extremely negative about the prospects of Democrats taking back the State Senate in November, but after looking at all the races, it doesn't seem quite as unlikely as I once thought. Especially with Bredesen up for re-election this year, a couple seats is all that stands in the way of Democrats retaking the Senate. I would love it if Sen McTurncoat could be ousted, but I doubt that is possible. I will be really interested to see what kind of dent Mary Parker is able to make in the lead of Jack Johnson. Though Hell will have to be pretty frosty for her to win, a narrow defeat could be telling of other races across the state.

That Henry is looking for support ought to scare the pants off you.

And a narrow defeat for Mary Parker in one of the most conservative counties not just in the state but in the whole country? It would be so cold it would zap all those notions of gloal warming...

I had that thought, until I checked into it and saw he was the only Incumbent Democrat running with opposition. Krumm is a good candidate, and I'm sure he'll go places in the Republican party, but SD21 in 2006 isn't one of those places.
